Court Reporter Job Description

We’re looking for a Court Reporter to be responsible for providing real-time reporting services to judicial officers, preparing transcripts in accordance with applicable Government Codes, Rules of Court, and Statues, and provide read back upon request.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creates an accurate, verbatim recording of courtroom proceedings in a written or electronic format
- Reads back testimony as requested by the Court
- Provides real-time court reporting capability
- Transcribes proceedings accurately for review of parties, the Court, appellate courts, and others as requested
- Provides substitute court reporting coverage as approved by appointing judge and based on court schedule
- Establishes a system for storing exhibits and maintains control over those exhibits until allowed to dispose of them according to a retention schedule
- Provides advice and counsel to the appointing judge on courtroom practices management
- Performs other duties as requested by the Court
About you
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Experience in a legal or court office
- The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal background check prior to the appointment
- Proficient in multiple computer hardware and software applications; interest in and ability to learn new technology and computer programs
- Ability to learn, interpret, retain and apply policies, procedures, and statutes, specifically relating to establishing the official court record
- Ability to multitask and prioritize duties in a fast-paced, professional environment
- Ability to simultaneously monitor multiple court proceedings and enter clear, detailed log notes regarding significant occurrences or do trial work with the potential of high-volume, complex transcript work
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people
- Ability to be flexible regarding assignments, which may include travel and transportation of equipment
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills, with and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in all aspects of job performance
